A sewage pump is used to move raw sewage from one location to another, for example from a sewage pump station into the main sewer. A sewage pump works by using a rotating impeller powered by an electric motor. During operation, pressure generated by the motor allows the water to flow up through the impeller and into the discharge pipe for distribution.
The most common used sewage pump is the ‘free passage design’ which are designed to allow solids to pass through the pump while using centrifugal force to move the sewage to the desired location. Free passage pumps are designed to allow solids to pass through the pump without clogging it and are useful for environments where foreign matter such as sanitary products and toilet paper maybe encountered.
